Broadband service providers, system integrators, and a large number of new start-up companies worldwide are now leading the push to deploy WiMAX networks. Established service providers, including Sprint-Nextel, AT&T, and Korea Telecom, as well as many new service providers, including Clearwire, are preparing to rollout WiMAX networks over the next few years.
Hundreds of global manufacturers and systems integrators are preparing products to enter the equipment market, which, according to Maravedis Research (2006), is expected to grow from several hundred thousand subscribers in 2006 to over 50 million subscribers in 2010.
Additionally the WiMAX Forum has established an IPR policy that encourages sharing of Intellectual Property among member organizations for the purposes of promoting worldwide adoption of the WiMAX standard. This industry commitment to develop standards-based, low-cost, WiMAX mobile devices, promises to enable global market adoption and fulfill the WiMAX vision of providing mobile internet anytime, anywhere.
